O’Hare Airport Terminal 5 Expansion

The expansion and modernization of O’Hare Airport Terminal 5, also known as the Global Terminal, is part of the transformative $8.5 billion O’Hare 21 project. With the planned additional 350,000 sq. ft. of building space, Terminal 5 will be expanded to include ten new gates and added concessions space, as well as 70% more space for travelers. The baggage handling systems, security checkpoints, and immigration facilities will be reconfigured to improve efficiency and passenger experience.

As project managers working for a construction management joint venture of 80 people, the Hanlin team is managing over $50 million in construction trades, monitoring contractor performance and project goals, and facilitating communication with all project team members.

O’Hare Airport Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC)

Hanlin co-founders Rebecca Harlin and Hannah Ciurej, serving as project managers with J.A. Watts, Inc., and Cotter Consulting, Inc., respectively, worked on the O’Hare Airport Consolidated Rental Car facility project (CONRAC). This $405 million, 3.2 million sq. ft. project added over 4,000 rental car and 2,000 public parking spaces and required extending the existing rail system to efficiently connect travelers to terminals and reduce congestion. It was the first multi-story fueling station to be built in Illinois.

Working on this project, the Hanlin co-founders provided design review, subcontract negotiation, on-site trade management, budget monitoring and cost management, and value engineering, reducing project costs by over $50 million. They facilitated MEP coordination throughout the project, from pre-construction through installation and closeout. In addition, the Hanlin team managed LEED documentation and developed efficient workflows to communicate seamlessly on a paperless jobsite.
